Our Story
We live here. We grew up here. And every single day, this river and this forest still surprise us.
Sierpe sits at the edge of Corcovado National Park — the most biologically intense place on the planet, according to National Geographic. The Sierpe River cuts through the largest mangrove wetland in Central America before opening into the Pacific, where humpback whales pass twice a year and sharks circle volcanic islands with ancient stone spheres on their shores.
We are José and Angie. We are not a company that sells tours. We are a family that shares the place we love most — with people who are ready to see it.

From Our Guests
One of our most loved excursions was today’s guided boat tour along the Sierpe River. The experience is unhurried, peaceful, and deeply immersive, with expert guides who are attentive, reassuring, and especially thoughtful with children or first-time wildlife viewers. During our visit, we saw several species of monkeys, vibrant birdlife, crocodiles, cayman, raccoons, all in their natural surroundings. It’s the kind of experience that feels both calming and unforgettable, and one we confidently recommend to our Montemar guests @StayMontemar
Thank you so much for making my first trip to Costa Rica a memorable one! The boat trip is an amazing experience - the team is knowledgeable. Special thanks to Angie and Moses - they both did a wonderful job showing us the - from monkeys, to a sloth and her baby, a few crocs and many birds. Absolutely beautiful! A must do when you are in area:) from your new friend in Cleveland Ohio
If I could give 10 start I would! Today’s Mangrove tour exceeded all expectations! We saw three type of monkeys, tons of different birds, boa constrictors, crocodiles, and so much more. Angie’s knowledge of the area and Moses’ skill with the boat were exceptional! I can’t say enough about it! You can’t miss with this tour!
Highly recommended! The mangrove tour with Angie and Brian is a must-do when you are in Sierpe or just passing by. It’s only an hour drive from Uvita. We are a family of 4 with two kids, ages 9 and 11, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour. In just 3 hours, we saw so many animals and learned a lot along the way. My kids asked lots of questions throughout the tour, and Angie was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and engaging. You can truly tell she is very passionate about what she does, which made the experience even more special. Thank you, Angie and Brian, for such a memorable family adventure!
We had a wonderful full-day tour with Sierpe Tours. We took a private boat through the beautiful mangroves and saw crocodiles and different bird species. When then continued to Caño island where we snorkeled and saw sea turtles, fish and more. We then stopped for a lovely lunch complete with fresh fruit on a lovely private beach. From start to finish Angie, the coordinator and Jose, our tour guide made the experience unforgettable! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for an exciting and unique experience. Thank you to the whole team, they were amazing!!
Amazingly awesome excursion to Cano island! If you go to Cano, go with Sierpe Tours. Much easier trip than from Uvita, and you also get a super cool side trip through the stunning Sierpe mangroves. We saw TONS of fish, corals, dolphins, turtles, a shark, and Jose and his team were knowledgeable and fun. We will do this again soon!
An unforgettable, tranquil journey through winding waterways, this mangrove tour offered a perfect blend of education and adventure. Expert guide Angie provided fascinating insights into the unique ecosystem, close up encounters with Monkeys, exotic birds, and stunning flora, making it a must do eco friendly experience. Our guide was passionate and informative, explaining the vital role of the mangroves in costal protections.
We came with family to Sierpe Tours while visiting Costa Rica and it did not disappoint. Our family has been on this river tour MANY times and could not stop talking about how amazing Angie was and that they would never use any other guide. Not only is Angie incredibly knowledgeable about the different species but she has a crazy keen eye to find the critters in the trees and mangroves. This was an amazing tour and we cannot wait to come back. When you go- ask to pet Lucky!
